WiFiWireless Fidelity, pronounced as two syllables: Wy-Fy. I'm not sure where the Fidelity part comes in, but that's the origin of the term. Used generally in reference to 802.11 (a, b, and g) wireless networking. The more general term "Wireless" is frequently used in mainstream publications to refer to cell phones, air cards, and Bluetooth, among others, so WiFi is used to narrow the term down to the wireless normally used to network computers.
